Ok, got a little delima. My new fiberglass box for 2 12's was origionally designed for 4 10's but due to restrictions in my budget I decided to go with just 2 12's. The box has 2 sealed chambers, when complete each will have ~1.35 cuft, which was fine if I had divided it into 4 10's (~.65 cuft, perfect for the subs I was gona use). Now I'm getting a pair of 12's that require only 1 cuft of air space per chamber. My question is....
What would be the best material, and ~ how much would be needed to cut the air space down the the 1 cuft needed?
Any input would be appreciated. Thankz

There are a couple of ways to do this.  If you plan to expand later and may need the space, you can use something removable to simply reduce the interior volume.  I've used small custom-built cubes made from MDF that were screwed to the inside of the enclosure, and I've used bricks that I glued in place with RTV.  These are easily removable later and are sonicly neutral.  A standard brick is about 0.04 cuft, so to take up 0.35 inside your enclosure you'd need 8.75 of them, so in this case it might make things a bit heavy.  You could simply insert a solid brace of MDF to partition the enclosure at the appropriate volume and be sure to seal the seams.

A cardboard box that has been made airtight by multiple windings of duct tape will do the job just fine as well. It can be resined into the appropraite spot and is very easy to remove at a later date.

interesting ideas. I think I'll try forbiddens cardboard theory first, a little easier than the brick deal, but if that fails or I screw it up ,lol, I'll give the bricks or the MDF box a spin. Thanks guyz
