They are overrated. Don't buy that junk. You can get a nice JBL BP-1200.1 amp for around $300 and it actually outputs around 1200 to 1300 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Actually I used to have a Profile 800 watt amp.  It actually put out pretty good power.  They are probably over rated, but they aren't by that much.  I had plenty of comments on my system when I used that amp...now my friend has it pushing two JL 10's in a bandpass box, and it rattles the walls down.  If you can get the 1200 for under $175, you should probably do it.

When amps claim high wattage, and are also very cheap, thats one sign the watts are overrated. Also, amps with a small fuse are usually of poor quality. Listen to customsuburb and tell your friend to save his money for a JBL 1200.1. What subs is this amp going to be powering?

Profile, Pyramid, Lanzar etc are all crap.  I've tried em all and learned that you get what you pay for.  Of course there are always exceptions, I'm sure you could get decent sound from any of these brands if you do it right.  Save yourself the headache and stay away from cheap electronics.
