Hey I'm new here, I'm from Western Australia and drive a Holden VP. So far I've got $500 for a sound system, and I can get a load from my parents. Here is what I hopefully want to buy for my car..

2x 200Watt 6" for front

B) 2x 10"/12" 600W Subs. I don't know of any brands that do them, Kicker do them I think so maybe theirs.

Now, the help that I needed was what type of AMP would I need for all of this. I may not be getting the 6x9s for awhile so scrap them from the overall power. I don't think you need an AMP for the 6", do you? And can anyone tell me if those 6x9s are any good?

Honestly I suggest buying none of what you listed, do a little more research and reading on this and other car audio forums and make an educated purchase. Sony is great for TV's and such but Car Audio enthusiast's stay away from their car audio. There's a good reason for that, it's crap! You can still build yourself a very nice system on a budget, just take your time and consider spending more money on your components and building your system over time. My first suggestion to you is to skip any 6x9's or speakers for the rear, a properly powered front stage will do you right and make's rear fill unecessary. Post your total budget and what you want to achieve with your system (sq or spl) and we can help you make choices from there.

I think I have given up defending sony hu's, just because I own one and I have not had a problem, but having used sony subs, stay away from them. It will hit pretty hard (not nearly as hard as kickers though, for sure), but if you want quality, you will not be very impressed.

Those 6x9's are bad, they look like a sony knock off, and sony 6x9's are pretty crappy to start with.

If you get a decent head unit, it can power your 6" I would say. My sony hu powers my 4 6x8's and it sounds fine. If you are on a tight budget, I would say look around for a hu you like around town, and then look for that model online. Sony's middle line decks are about as good as the next middle line brands. In the 100-200 price range, its all about what works for you in that category.

if the 200Watt 6" is anything like the 6x9 set don't bother. Look for good quality brands.

First piece of advice, dont buy anything sony, or sony rip off brands. i seriously never thought someone would try to rip of xplods, II was lmao when i saw those. Second piece of advice, dont buy from ebay. Find a car audio shop in your area and talk to the sales people there. They can make you a good system for whatever price you want, just dont let them pressure you int something you dont want to buy.

Next piece of advice, go to local shops and find stuff that sounds good and google search for a better price. Ebay is risky, and you can probably find a comparable price online anyway.

Wow thanks guys, I forgot to mention that I'm getting a Head Unit for my birthday so that's not coming out of my budget. I have around $500 and more is coming, And I'll be able to get a loan of a few hundred bucks from parents. A good site I've been looking at (strathfeild) which is Australia and has stores near me, has a 10 inch Pioneer sub 500 Watt Max, but it shows no Specs http://www.strathfield.com.au/Product.asp?ProdID=271. Also, icu400 what sony HU do you have to power your speakers? I found some alright looking 6", http://www.strathfield.com.au/Product.asp?ProdID=767, Pioneer 3-way 220Watt, but again no detailed specs.

I have the cdx-f5700 model, the new one for 2004. Personally, I like it, but I wouldn't go much lower than that on the sony line. I decided on this one because a) it was under 200 bucks b) changes colors :P and c) i liked the controls and the setup

check out pioneer's website for some specs on those, or you could try cardomain.com or crutchfield.com and they would have some specs as well

If you have an extra $100 start looking in the $250 range on that site for Component speakers. I don't know how shopping works there, but those prices aren't good.

Like I said, I don't know how prices / shipping works for you. But for $30 more I'd rather have something like this: http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFREF6000CS

Jaycar also has some good gear for you to look at. I would stick a little closer to home for some of your advice. Try posting on CAA or Boostcruising and see what your local mates have to say. Anytime that you deal with E-Bay be prepared to get burned, in some cases you may not but it is always best to be prepared for the worst.
