Do these speakers sit flush with the rear deck or do they look like they're mounted above the deck?  It might be easier to check if you take out the back seat.   I've never been in an Elantra but I had to remove the back seat in my 90 Toyota Corolla to remove the rear deck shelf.  That was the only way to get to the speakers.  Hope this helps.

They are probably held in by clips I would say to just try and give it a tug but if its not clips you could end up breaking something... I would call Hyundai they should be able to tell you... Or if there is any specific elantra forums online...

Ive just done mine

you need to take out the back seat so you can get to the screws the hold in the shelf

you need to take the whole shelf out so you can get the speakers out

oh, and by the way dont be surprised if aftermarket speakers dont fit in the factory holes

well they fit but if they are too deep it will hit the mechanism of boot hinge thingy (technical term)
