Well after a month of trying to figure out how I was going to design it I finally came up with a design. However I want to make sure that this design will work well with this woofer. I kind of modeled my ABC box after the design measurements of the kicker S15L7 4.5cf vented box. Anyway here is what I came up with:
ABC Box for 15in RF PunchZ 15
total box length = 32in
total box width = 17.75in or 17 3/4in
total box height = 19in
Total box = 5cf(before displacement)
Loaded chamber length =24in
Loaded chamber width = 17.75in or 17 3/4in
Loaded chamber height = 19in
Loaded chamber = 3.7cf(before displacement)
Empty chamber length = 8in
Empty chamber width = 17.75in or 17 3/4in
Empty chamber height = 19in
Empty chamber = 1.1cf(before port displacement)
Port Length = 12.5in (x3)
Port Diamemter = 4in
So what do you think? Will this design work or not?

I'd assume the volume of teh two chambers need to be 1:2 after all the driver, ports, bracing, etc are considered.

Also, you need to tune the box to the specs of the driver, not just the physical attributes of some other box you saw.

The box is tuned to 28Hz, not kicker's 33Hz. Once driver, bracing, and ports are in I'm looking for a final net volume of 3.5cf loaded chamber, and .9cf empty chamber.

I've been doing research on ABC/DCR boxes recently also.  Almost every piece of information I found said to split the total volume 1:2.  So, a 5 ft^3 total volume after bracing, ports, etc would mean you'd want the larger chamber at 3.33 ft^3 (after all bracing, ports and the driver) and the smaller chamber at 1.67 ft^3 (after bracing and ports).

You might want to do some more research before you start cutting.

Okay went back reread the post that kit audio has on sound domain about the abc box. He says that I need to take the recomemed vented box volume and double it. So with the punch z that 2.5cf. Double that and I get 5cf. Then he says that the enclosure should have a 2:1 ratio with the loaded chamber twice that of the empty. So idealy I should have two internal volumes of 3.33cf and 1.66 cf. How ever I'm having a hard time comming up with the 1.66cf for the empty chamber. any suggestion?

Sorry, I don't think that guy knows what he is talking about.  I have never seen anything saying to double the volume.  Every piece of information I found says to design a regular ported box for teh sub, just like if you were going to leave it a regular ported box.  Solve for two ports instead of one.  Split the box 2:1 volume, mount driver in large volume with one port, the other port in teh small volume and add a 3rd identical port between teh two chambers.

I would NOT spend your time an money based on what you ask someone.  You shoul spend an hour doing research yourself so you know if someone is tell you a bunch of crap.  That guy has nothing to lose if you build the box wrong, but you do.

For starters, look here:

http://www.diysubwoofers.org/prt/dual_chamber.htm

Then use Google and search on some other automotive forums.  Search for "ABC", "DRC", "dual chamber reflex", "dual chamber ported" for starters.  Good luck and post back when you find out more or build the box.  I'm wanting to build one also but haven't figured out exactly what volume I have to play with, etc.

Hey thanks for the information beady. I'll take a look at the link you provided. I've tried the google thing and all it does is either give me threads from sounddomain, or carsound and quite frankly neither sit has been really helpful as of late. yet, I just keep on searching and researching till I can finally come up with how this enclosure really is suppose to work.

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
