Tips and Tricks for setting the Amplifier

Hi, can you guys give me some tips and tricks based on your experience in setting the "settings" on the amplifier for maximum performance, when i install amp and sub i just leave all the settings on default on the amp thats why my systems always sound so weird, can you guys show me your ways of tricking the amplifier settings, thanks a lot in advance guys

What size of interior speakers do you have? How big is your sub and what modle and brand? We need this information to help you set your crossover settings. To set the gain: 1. turn the gain (sometimes labled volume on the amp, but not the bass boost) all the way down, 2. put in a bass heavy cd and turn your cd players volume to 3/4 of its maximum, 3. go back to your amp and slowly turn the gain on your amp up until you hear distortion (a buzzing or rattling noise coming from your sub, the bass will also sound sloppy and uncontrolled), 4. turn the gain down until the distortion goes away. Don't turn the volume up on your cd player past the point where you just set your gain ever, and dont be tempted to crank the gain all the way up to get some extra volume, because you can eventually blow your sub (leave the bass boost off also because that can cause the amp to clip and blow your sub also). Sorry if I'm rambling .
