Hey someone sent me a link to this site and I was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me whats going on with my audio. I just switched out an older aftermarket head unit for a newer one and after switching them only my subs are working, the speakers arent getting anything to them. I am running the speakers off of an amp. And in the old head unit there were only 2 sets of RCA's coming out of it. Now there are 3 on the new one. But only two sets of RCAs in the car (one set for each amp). If i missed anything just let me know. And thanks in advance

i dont know what kind of amps you are using, but im gonna take a stab that your wiring may not be correct.

you may have to look into Y splitters, i could be wrong though, or at least Y splitters for the rear output from your deck to your sub-amp, that way rear channels are only sent to that amp as well as your amp for the cabin speakers.

your speakers would be free to run off the other amp you have.

info on your amps and wiring setup could be more useful, only speculating, so if any info is false slap me and correct my mistake

First test, reverse the RCA outs at the head unit and see if the speakers work and the sub stops working. That will narrow things down a bit.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

i switched up all the RCAs, plugging in each of the to the sub RCAs and the subs kept working so im thinking it is either the internal speakers amp, or something with the RCAs coming from it.

Your new head unit most likely has front, rear, and sub rca outputs. First check your fade cause if you only have 2 sets of rca's you can only use one or the other w/out y's. Sounds stupid but it happens.

Is the amp running your mids/highs a 2 or 4 channel? If its 4 then run the 3rd pair of signals to do it right. That is if it still works. Is it even coming on?

Its a 2 channel amp. And yes it is coming on, but theres just nothing coming through, i dunno y.

Im not sure who installed it. When I bought the car there was already an upgraded stereo. But I put in different subs and a new amp to power them. When I went to switch the wiring harness when I was first changing them, whoever installed it replaced the factory speaker wires with new ones, so we had to cut up the new wiring harness and run it to the new speaker wires. Could it be something with that?

You have switched your rca's around and that did not work. You mentioned that you changed out your sub amp. When you changed the amp did you make sure that you cleared all of the wiring when you were installing the new amp if you installed it. If you changed the location of the new amp you may have severed the wires to the amp for you highs.

If you did not relocate your amp you can just take a speaker and wire it directly to you amp and see if you get some sound. If you don't get any sound check your wiring on the input side. If you do get sound trace your wiring from the amp to the speakers.

check the remote lead to make sure it is turning on this amp... it could be not hooked up, hooked up wrong ( power ant vs. amp remote ) or overloading the remote out circuit and dumping voltage....

I have switched the RCAs around and only the subs have been gettin power. When I changed the amp we put it in the same basic spot so i dont think there is much of a chance we hit the other wires, ill double check tho.

The amp is turning on, so i dont think it is the remote lead.

Im not amazing with all this stuff, but i know enough that this should be working haha. Im very confused.
