Hi, I'm new here and think this is a great forum. My problem is installing dash speakers in my 1990 Chevy Silverado 2500. They are the Infinity Reference 4x6's. The old speakers are 4x6's but these new ones are too wide because of the magnet. It's only like a 1/4" too small but on one side is a tube for a vent in front and the other is some insulation against the firewall. If the tube wasn't there for the heat vent I could just cut it but I can't. Any advice or am I just screwed. Thanks for helping.

You could try raising the speaker upward slightly if that would help at all (try some washers or something). Sorry if this dosn't work but thats about all I can think of for 4x6's.

Cut the duct and cover the hole with duct tape.  It shouldn't be too big of a cut to clear the magnet.  Duct tape works mahvelous for ducts.

I have put in both plate kappa's and regular 4x6 kappa's into that truck. In every case I have screwed the screws down sequentially until they mate flush. I have never had any problems afterwards, its just a tight fit.

Thanks for the suggestions. I"ll look into them tomarrow morning. If I decide to do something drastic, like mount the speakers in the doors what size would be recommended? If these are too hard to fit I'll just get something that I can easily fit in the door because I see that 4x6's aren't regarded as being good speakers. So I'll see what happens and will post back.

Be very careful about going into the doors. On the drivers side you can get a 5 1/4 just above the armrest but the main wire harness is right behind where you need to go and it must be relocated first.

if you decide to go with the doors make shure your speakers have a high off axis response and a low enough profile to clear the windows when rolled down the rest is up to you a buddie of mine put 8" treo engineering woofers in the doors of his silverado this required custom door pannels made of fiberglass and apulsterd and painted with original colors
"ain't nothin workin, ain't nothin right, theres a hole in me that i cant fill no matter how hard i try...    hey bartender hit me with a double!"
