Hi, new guy here, only know basic electronics so I come here for help. This is my 1st post, I usually just read all of the other posts obtaining information. Some real experts here, greatly appreciate your time.

Ok,  my 2 15" JL's are hitting good, but Im not getting any sound (music or lyrics), so I am assuming it has something to do with the amp that powers my 6x9's, or my x-over. All lights to both of my amps and x-over are on, and Im getting ~13v on each when measuring with DMM. Alternator, and both batteries are good to go.

For some reason the ground for the 6x9's have always been connected to the negative terminal on my 2nd battery, is this all right? I took an image of my setup, but it was too large to upload.

Thanks,

BC

Subs dont play music...they play bass.

if 6x9's were meant to have the (-) wire grounded, then they wouldn't have included a (-) wire from the deck or on the x-over.  wire it up properly.

I'm guessing when you said ground wire from 6x9's you meant ground wire from your amp? If so then, I guess it's ok, but your looking at a possibility of power loss, just earth it out the chassis, much better idea. If you meant the negative side of your 6x9's.....what on earth are you doing?! pardon the pun.

I think whats happened is that your crossover may have taken a nose dive.

Where is the level set for for the High frequency side of things? if it's turned right down then there will be no music coming out at all.

If the level is fine or if there is no level adjustment, then check to see if there is any signal coming out. if there isn't....then it's definetly taken a nose dive.

If everything with the crossovers are fine then the input pre amp in your 6x9 mave be dead, if so you will need to consider the costs of getting it repaired versus replacing the amp altogether

Thx placid, i hope i didnt correct my problem with a temporary solution, I 1st removed the 6x9 amp and replaced it with another one with a built in crossover. However I now have two RCA plugs that are not used for anythingThump but no music -- posted image.. Hmmmmmmmm. Originally there was 4 RCA plugs in the crossover (which I plugged into the new amp) and two other ones that went to the old amp. I plugged the 4 into the new amp, but now the two that were in the old amp are now just sitting there, not sure if they need to be plugged in somewhere.

Again, I have an image of my setup, but it is too big to post, also Im not sure how to create a link so ya'll can see.

Thanks again

you need to have a site u can upload the pics to and also have the ability to hyperlink to it...or just resize the pic so u can upload it to here.  click on the link beside the happy face just above the box where u add your reply..its the image upload link.  resize the pic as a JPG from a paint program so its no bigger than 30 KB and post it that way.

Is the new crossover different.  Usually there is a sub input and a regular input for the mids and highs or just one input, depending on the x-over.  either way the input goes from the head unit to the x-over then out of the x-over to the appropriate amps. the sub amp and the 6x9 amp should have different RCA cables which both come from the appropriate output on the x-over.  A pic would definately help out though.

Here's before I did anything, note the 4 RCA's going into the crossover, and the two going into the white amp.

I then took the white amp out (to troubleshoot), replaced it with this amp (which it says it has a built in crossover in it)

Everything seems normal now after I switched. I put the 4 RCA's originally in the little white crossover into this Optimus amp, but notice the 2 remaining RCA's, do I need these for anything?

Thanks, I hope the images aren't too small
