I think I'm going to give Adire a shot, and buy a Shiva. I'll drop that into my ~1.5 ft^3 sealed box. But then, I'm not sure if it'd be better to run 250(4-ohm) or 360w(2-ohm) RMS to it. I was told that 250 should be good, but would there be any downside to running 360?

Since you have to choose DVC coil configuration first, you won't be able to try it both ways.  But these are the facts:  Doubling power will give you +3 db.  Adding 110 watts to 250 watts therefore will give you +1 1/3 decibels.  The trade-off is in the performance of the amplifier.  The rated specs are measured with a 4 ohm load, not 2 ohm.  Lowering the ohm load to increase power results in a trade-off of output quality.  There will be less damping factor among other things and the amp will get hotter.  Although subs are usually run at a 2 ohm load, in this case I don't see that it would be worth it in the long run.

Knowing this but just for fun I'm going to switch my sub to the 2 ohm version (because I already have one in a box not doing anything)... just to see if I can hear any quality differences, or obvious loudness differences.  In my case I already have two of the same sub with the different coil configurations, so a test isn't going to cost me what it would cost you.  But I'm betting beforehand that I go back to the 4 ohm load version and stay with it.  Because I bet I'll not be able to hear a difference in volume, and I'll always wonder if the sound is as good as it was before and I simply can't tell.  We have a tendency to quickly adjust to the sound we presently hear....

250w in a ported box is plenty for a Shiva. Heck, 250w is plenty for a 1.5ft^3 box sealed Shiva.
Also, the difference in loudness between 4ohm and 2ohm will _only_ be noticable at the limit. In other words, you'll only notice it when you've gone beyond where the 250w would put you.
0-250w, just considering loudness, they'll sound exactly the same.

Would that box work as a ported box for the Shiva?
I would much rather have it ported, but wasn't sure if 1.57 ft^3 would be big enough.

I recommend you download the excellent "Application Manual" they have for the Shiva on the Adire site.  It is under technical or something similar.  It gives very detailed examples of what works best.
