I'm new to this installation stuff, so I have a few questions. I have a 2003 Taurus with a Rear Control Unit in the trunk. I am putting a four channel amp in the trunk to power 4 speakers, 2 front and 2 rear. I want to keep my factory head unit. I will not be getting a sub. The amp is a Sony Xplod 500 Watt with speaker level inputs.
Can I make my input and output connections through the RCU? If so, can I use a harness to do this? If the power is 50W X 4, can I just use my factory speaker wire. I would like to keep this as simple as possible. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The rear control unit you are refering to is the tuner, and amp sections of the factory head unit (if i understand you correctly)

You will have to use the wires from there for any of your wiring.  The speaker outputs of the factory amp will be your new amp inputs.  And yes, you can use the factory wires for your speaker outputs, especally if you plan on amplifying the factory speakers.  You may want to think about running new wires if you plan on upgrading your speakers (though you may not need to depending on power output of the new amp).

With the new amp it will be louder, but you will still have the problem of disapearing bass at higher volume.  Thats what you will have to live with until you get a new head unit.

Thanks for the reply. I am upgrading all four of my speakers. The amp is only 50 watts per channel. Am I correct in assuming that my factory speaker wires will be able to handle this?

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
