Does anyone know of any other SPL software besides Term-lab? Right now I don't have 700 bucks for their software. I need something that can at least give me a ball park figure as to my db's. I was looking at the hand held meter like the ones at radio shack but they only go upto 130 db. (correct me if I'm wrong) I know I'm not doing 170 but I think I'm between 140's and 160's...(I THINK!)
advice please

True RTA 3 is a shareware program that will measure SPL.   But the problem is you will still need a Designated mic for SPL.    Most mics that are on the market that will record over 140db require a phantom power supply, in other words they need a power supply just to dive them.    The only ones that are accurate and dont need a power supply are the old style Term-lab mics,   They will run approx $200-$300.     Your best bet to find out what your hitting is to call around and some shops in your area might have a meter.   Typically charge around here is $15 a hour for test and tune.

jeffchilcott,
Thanks for your reply, I downloaded the program and it looks cool. But, I don'have an spl mike LOL! I just have a regular old plugin computer mike.. ya think that will work for now.. I don't need to be perfect but like I said, all I want is a ball park figure.. and about driving to a shop.. the closest one is almost 2 hrs. away! sometimes I miss NYC!

I have heard of them, but I have not tried one out yet.   All I can Say is watch Ebay and try to catch a used audio-control setup
