I'm looking for a budget headunit for my SQ setup. I'm wondering if I got any cheap used Eclipse headunit off eBay or somewhere else, would it be just as good as anything else?
I don't care at all about what it looks like, all I need is three pairs of RCA outs.
Are there any good SQ head units that I can buy new for less than $150? If so, where's the best place to buy?

A used Eclipse head unit will be just that: a used head unit.  Its quality will depend on how old it is and how much it's been abused.  Of course if it is in good shape it should perform very close to its original specs.  As far as good SQ on a budget, I can recomend Blaupunkt heads as having excellent SQ at relatively low price points.  Not in the same league as Eclipse, mind you, but generally very good SQ for the price.

In my experience, they're definitely not all the same. Years ago, I had an Eclipse 5303R that I loved. I bought it because it would play any horribly scratched cd that I put in. Then I replaced it with an Eclipse 54040 and that head unit sucked. It skipped constantly and had other weird problems. After being annoyed by it for 4 or 5 years, I finally put my 5303R back in a few weeks ago and it still sounds great. If you just want a good cd player and don't care about any extra features, look for a 5303R.
