What happened to this company?

Seems like their last good speaker was the Stroker, and that came out more than 10 years ago. How good are their Vmax and HED lines?

I built a box to CV specs for a 12"Vmax but never had a chance to listen to it. It was for my brother and the last time I saw it, the liquid nails wasn't even dry. Next day he sold it to some guy. He says it really pounded but it's kind of hard to believe it. Now my brother in law wants one but he is making the decision solely based on my brother's experience with the sub.

Man I could ask this about *so many* companies.

THe Vmax and HED series are still good.
Vmax is the better of the two though.

Well, they were going bankrupt and were acquired by the Stanton Group (of turntable and pro-audio fame) in 2002.  CV is a value-add brland name and not a manufacturer.  The same can be said for hundreds of companies who used to stand-alone.  It's been said that soon everything will be owned by ten companies, and it's not that far from wrong in the electronics field.

I use a HED 12 sub that I bought two years ago solely on the brand name (and the fact that it costs $49...heh).  I built a sealed box to exactly the recommended size.  It's a 4 ohm DVC and I have it paralleled to a mono amp...200 watts.  It sounds very good, not too loud, but just good...much better than the price would lead me to believe.

After I bought it, I started reading this forum and learning a few things...one of which was how to use box-building programs.  It was then that I realized how skimpy CW is with T/S parameters...  they look like this!  Not enough info to model it in a program.

If I knew this much then, I would have been frustrated trying to model the perfect enclosure.  But, for what it's worth,  I'll give a good review for the HED, and I don't have any intention of replacing it.  It's definitely more of an SQ sub than SPL.  And don't bother trying to model it, just follow the recommended enclosure volume.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
