Is it bad for the sub if u take a 2 channel amp and run one channel to one voice coil and the other channel to the other voice coil?  Do they both have to be mono?

its ok to do that but the amp will feed the sub wierd as far as running stereo to one sub. ive done it before with no problems. keep the balance centered up.

Or, if you are that worried about it, wire the voice coils in series, and bridge the amp. The net impedance is the same, and you don't have to worry about it...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
