I'm about to install my first high powered system in my '94 caprice wagon.  I've done a good amount of installs in the last 10 years but nothing like this.  I have a 8 V eclipse in it now & waiting to go in a JBL Power Series BPX 2200.1 (2500rms) driving 3 JBL W12GTI's (2100rms total).  And a JBL Power Series PX 300.4 (125x4rms) driving a 6.5" JL AUDIO component set & JL AUDIO 6x9 for the rears.  So thats about 3000rms of hard hitting power that I want my setup & car to handle well.  I've never had to run a second battery, or upgrade an alternator.  For those who know, what do I need to make sure I do.  Any other vital equiptment I'm not thinking of, what kind of alternators should I be looking @, brand & power rating??  I got a red top optima running the car now, should I get another for the system or something else.  I'm sure I'm going to have more questions along the way, I just need to get started planning it all out.  I'm having a hard time deciding how I want to arrange those 3 12's.  Thanks for the suggestions,  Justin

I needed to add that since getting married & going to Costa Rica for 2 weeks (AWESOME!!) & after buying that equiptment even at employee discount I don't have much left to spend on expensive specialty batteries or alternators. I know I need them just cant afford the really really nice ones, still need to get wires, cables, insulation & box materials.

well you will need to upgrade your alternater and make sure you upgrade your batterys ground and the wires from your alternater to your battery if you can find a local auto eletric shop that can rebuild your alternater to rut out more power that could save you some money

I knew about the upgraded wires, just didn't make mention of it.  Theres a guy on the impalass forums that makes the upgraded battery/alt/ground wire connections.  I guess my main concerns now are of the other equiptment.  Like is the red top optima the way to go for a system battery?  And getting my alt rebuild is the better budget way to go that should hold up?  What about the audio control center, not critical, but should be added when possible?  Also this will be my first fiberglass enclosure, is there strenght issues I should be concerned w/ this much power??.   Gotto go, thanks for the info so far.  Justin

the red top is not the best battery that optima make the yellow top is better from what i know about those batterys and i would recommend a kinetik battery  and if you go to the web site www.kinetikaudio.com you will see why but there big bucks for a battery i was looking online like 2 years ago and their was a place that did alternaters for like a dollar per amp of output don't worry about the audio control center that can be done later and for the enclosure i have seen lots of power on subs in fiberglass dont worry about that ? did you build the enclosure your self if you did you should know the strength and about your battery if you get an alternater with enough output you should be OK with the red top i like the wagon i had a compact wagon like 4 years ago it was rusty and looked like sh**  but it was loud i had 2 soundstream SPL 15"s and a referance 6.0 in it i must or looked like a ass rollin that but it was cool to me LOL
