Hi guys, I have a quick question, that can probably be answered here easily. I just installed a new alpine 9845, into my boat. Real basic setup for now, no amps, etc. My problem is that when I turn up the volume past 16 or so, the unit just shuts off. Then it will turn itself back on again, and run fine, as long as I keep the volume lower.  I am wondering if this is because the power  wire and ground wire I used, from the old stereo, are not  very heavy gage. Will this cause my problem?  Thanks, for your replies..

Change your ground and make sure it's directly going to your battery. Also, your power wire may need to be directly hooked up tot he battery. If so, make sure both wires are increased in gauge to reach to the battery in the back of the boat.

Run 12 guage from the battery to the cd player for both ground and power.  Remember to fuse the power wire about 6" from the battery with a 20 amp fuse.

Thanks for the replies. Will do. Just  for me to understand what is going on actually, is the stereo simply shutting down cuz , when I turn it up its drawing more current than the wiring can provide? Is there a built in protection in the head unit for this reason? Did I hurt it?
