I have heard a lot of great things about these so I am planning on getting these for my explorer.  I was looking around on ebay and noticed some are dual voice coil and the cheaper ones are single voice coil...What is the difference and is it a noticeable one?

The difference is only one of wiring options.
Some people mistakenly believe BS Best Buy product literature about DVC woofers being "two-subs-in-one" which is why, at a retail level, they can command the extra $10 or $20. Of course, to be fair, the DVC prolly takes the extra 2 cents to make as well, if just for extra plugs. Not really sure why it would make a difference on ebay.
You should buy from a real store. Even have that.. eh.. how you say.. warranty?

$305.70 for a pair shipped.
BTW, those really are *outstanding* woofers.

Sedate: ISn't twice the amount of coil in the gap as a SVC version? Or do they just cut the length of coil in the gap in half to accomadate the second VC?

If you had two subs that were otherwise identical.. I couldn't imagine so. That would change power handling, tonality.. I mean.. the entire speaker would be different. I mean.. wouldn't it have to be?

From this link:
Naturally, it is more expensive to wind and terminate dual voice coils and you will typically pay a small premium compared to a similar single voice coil speaker. So what do you get for the extra few bucks? Do dual voice coils offer a performance advantage? Not really.

From the first line of this link:
The primary advantage of the dual voice coil speaker is wiring flexibility.

AH, I see.
I have just always noticed that when comparing the SVC to the DVC version that there is a slight difference between the T/S parameters

Yea.. you get a different dcr or whatever the ts parameter for impedence is (?)... but if you graph a DVC and SVC next to each other with like WinISD.. they always right much the same to me.

you really wouldn't notice a difference btwn the two...
don't just buy it for wiring flexability, make shure you can get the impedence you want out of it. Buying two DVC 12" subs where each VC is 4 ohm, you won't be able to get 2 ohms out of them (unless you disconnect half the VC's). Just plan what you want to do before you buy...
