I already have one sub in my truck and I really like it but I'm getting the itch to upgrade again. I'd like to add a second sub under my console like those JL Stealth Box enclosures that fit under the console between the front seats. However, I am concerned about wave cancellation and/or poor imaging. Does anyone have any experience with putting subs in different locations? What should I watch out for?
Thanks,
Mike

I don't know about the noise cancellation issues, but I had the JL stealthbox in my 2000 F150, and I really enjoyed it.  I sold my truck over a year ago, and have been looking to sell the stealthbox.  It has a 10W3d4 dual voice coil sub in it.  I would sell it to you for less than half of what they are new.  email me if interested, jorourke3@cox.net

youre imaging should actually improve. as far a cancellation. im not sure. and i believe you alpine has bass focus. and that might play a factor in the imaging. what im saying im not sure how to set up the time delay for the subs in two different locations. but there are other forum members here with vas knowledge.  im just an upper class trailer trash installer.2000 F150 - Have one sub. Thanks for the offer jumpn. I might take you up on it but I can't do it before Christmas. Short of funds right now. Is it a sealed or ported enclosure?
As far as imaging goes - I know that subs are not directional anyway but cancellation is always possible. The bass focus funcion on the Alpine head unit is somewhat cryptic to me. I do not understand how or why to use it. I mean, what is the difference between bass focus and time correction? I only have one sub so what is there to focus?

It is a sealed enclosure. Check out http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1384

for information.  The subwoofer control on your alpine should be similar to mine, (alpine 9811) in that I believe you can change how the bass presents itself in your vehicle, IE more forward near the front of the car,  more diminished if you don't want big boom, etc.  You can also adjust the amount of signal sent to your sub using the subwoofer level control.  Mine is the big dial, push it in, and SW Level will appear on your display.  Adjust from 0 to 15, whatever mood you are in.  You can also adjust the phase that the sub plays, to further fine tune your system.   Let me know after Xmas if still interested in the box. Later, Jumpn

Mike,
I recently responded to another similar question. Here is the short answer: Get the stealth box and ditch the other one. The JL stealth is DESIGNED to give optimum performance in your immediate environment (read - your truck's cab space). Any second device WILL create interference, worse in fact, than high frequency drivers because low frequencies are nearly omnidirectional. Cancellation at some frequencies is a certianty, not a "maybe".
If the JL doesn't give you enough output, resign yourself to a custom box that, depending on who designs it and what drivers you use, may or may not give you more output at the frequencies you desire.
Make sure you have enough "real" watts to drive the box without clipping the amp. This is the single biggest reason drivers are damaged. Under-powered!

That is a good point. Thanks for the advice. I do have one other problem.. Where am I going to put that extra amp? I suppose under the passenger seat. I just hate putting amps under the front seats....maybe I'll build an amp rack to stack two amps under the 30 seat behind the drivers seat. How can I spend that kind of jingle without my wife finding out? Hmmmmm. Going to be tough.
Thanks again!

Id say sell off your amp and sub, then start up a new box with a fiberglass bottom to squeeze every bit of air space out of that truck, separate the 2 chambers in the perfect spot to give you 2 chambers with the same air space, then search for subwoofers than will fit the size and air requirements you have once the box is near completed. Then get yourself a nice big amp to power them and mount her to the ceiling2000 F150 - Have one sub. Want Another -- posted image.
