I am fairly new to the site and not sure if this type of thing is covered in another area. Sorry if it is. I am trying to swap out the factory h/u for an aftermarket one(here comes the system!). My question is does the whole center of the dash come off or is there another trick? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

it looks like the part that is around the hu is able to be taken out to get to the hu's latches/clips. but i was gust looking at a pic of the hu that i found so there could be a way for you to take out the hu without taking out its surroundings. look were closely and try to see if there are any hidden slots to get that tool in there to take it out. if not then you are going to have to take it out the hard way. there has to be a way to take it out without taking the dash apart.

Well on mine, the dash trim looks to over lap the h/u about an 1/8''(crappy gm fit and finish), so i think im gonna have to take the dash apart.

When you pick out the new deck you want, get the installation kit and it'll tell you how to remove the radio.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
