This is for a 2003 Monte Carlo-

Assuming a stock GM deck and factory rear amp, is there any wire i can tap into from the trunk or under the dash (not under the hood, unless i have to), that i can use as a remote wire?

End-path will be the trunk, and as always, the shorter and easier to get to the better...

thank you!

Look for a pink wire in the main ignition harness, this is the color wire that GM has used for years for their main ignition line.

dont tap into the pink wire that is the main ignition and it stays on during cranking use the orange wire the power goes off during starting. i did a 02 monte carlo sunday. it costs a little money but go ahead and add a headunit with the door chime integrator if u can afford it, that way theres no step down and u have an actual remote wire to tie into, b/c that ignition harness is a little trouble to get to, and the door chime integrator adds and ignition swith and will keep your radio on until the door is open just like the factory. if u do decide to tie into the ignition make sure u use an inline fuse holder, for a remote wire u shouldnt need more than a 5 amp fuse. also pay attention to where u run the wire theres alot of metal under that dash

The dark brown wire in the ignition harness is actually the vehicle's accessory wire. It is hot in acc and in the run position. If in fact you are replacing the factory radio, then I also agree with nstaller36695 about using a radio replacement module. They aren't cheap, but are worth the money in the long run and the results you get.

Not my car, i don't really care about getting a new head unit for the vehicle, unless he buy's my Pioneer 7600 im sellin.

I just want to get something to make the amp kick on. I tried tapping the blue/white wire thats on the factory amp, and whenever the bass hits on the 6x9's the amp's lighted face would light up. Needless to say it was rather cool, but didn't allow the subs to play.

Soo, If i tap the orange wire from the ignition harness (? location?) and run it as the remote wire? I wanted to say orange or pink, but i thought the pink was used to crank it over. I have a 1997 monte carlo personally, and i really don't like messing with the 2003 factory wiring and amp, its a pain in the butt. I will recommend getting an aftermarket deck, however i think his funds are rather short. When his funds pick up I may try to sell him my deck for ~$150 or so, but until then the orange wire probably will work. I have not tested any wires up front yet for switched, and i didn't want to run them off anything that wasnt switched (obviously).

Thanks for your help, next time i get a chance with the car i'll test it with the DMM and hook it up if it works!

So DARK BROWN is better than Orange?

On the ignition harness, i guess the forum labels them as ACCESSORY /HEATER and Accessory 2/heater...

I just don't want a remote wire that kicks on only when the heater is on. an Accessory wire is what i wanted, however. Sounds like either should work alright, i only need 50-200mA to kick an amp on..

I am afraid you have the wiring backwards nstaller36695. The brown wire is accessory (Works with key in accessory position) and the orange is technically termed a second ignition. Only works in ignition and run mode and not crank mode. The orange wire is for the climate controls and the brown for the radio, wipers and other accessories.
