I did an install on a 2000 1.7 EL. Its running two infinity 12" 1230W's. I used the correct gauge wire for the amp and everything was working fine until the owner ran over a pothole and I guess it knocked the pheonix gold amp around a bit. Now everytime the amp is turned on whether or not the subs are connected the fuses blow. I tried it in my own car and as soon as the amp turned on the fuses blew. I also put in the correct amperage fuses and just to be sure I used fuses with a little bit of a higher amperage rating. But I still get the same problem. Anyone encountered something like this? Do I need to send the amp in for repair?

If the amp was "knocked" around a bit, you more than likely damaged it. This is an example of a faulty install ruining good equipment. Next time, try srewing the amp down.

Send the amp in for repair.
