ok i have a ma audio hk-401sx amp running 3 pioneer subs at .5 ohm and everything was working great then the other day when i was leaving for work i turned my car on and it made this horrible noise comming from the subs, so i didnt have time to look at it so i pulled the fuse and went to work. later i looked at it and it seems like the amp becuse it makes a noise of only 1 tone and doesnt play any music. so i switched rca's and that didnt help so i have no idea what is going on or if anyone has ever had this happen to them becuse i have never even heard of this happending, so if anyone knows what this is please please let me know.

well I see that that amp is .5 ohm stable (which was my initial thought)... But how long have you been running it at a half ohm? could it be possible you overworked it, and it built alot of heat up and something got fried? I know the lower the impedence, the hotter amps get, but dont know if that could be the problem with that amp, does it have protection if impedance drops to lets say .333 for example?

Regardless of what the mfr. claims (particularly MA audio), running an amp at a .5 ohm is going to cause great stress to the amp. Your amp obviously cannot handle this load.

Time to re-think this setup. Perhaps multiple amps or an old Orion hcca amp that was actually capable of .5 ohm.

I agree, the amp has been used beyond it's real world applications. What a manufacturer tells you and real world conditions are most of the time wildly different. People beleive what they read as an example. A manufacturer can tell you whatever you want to hear, why would they lie to you? Yes if I wrote that Bose was the best gear on the planet you would want to give me a e-smack upside the head because you know better.

Ok... My last post didn't work, but I'll try again. forbidden, how do I go about giving people and e-smack my amp makes a weird noise! -- posted image. ? And about the amplifier, a .5 ohm impedance is one heck of an impedance. MA Audio also isn't known for "reliability." Heck, most amplifiers couldn't stand a .5 ohm impedance. You extremely overworked your amplifier. Like dwarren said, you should look into and old Orion amp. At least your MA Audio amp had a good run, hopefully.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.
