Hi all,
I would like to get pair of 12" subs. Not for competition purpose, just wanna get loud bass. The only good spl subs i know r the JLw6v2 12". Any other recommendation? Pair of W6 cost me about US$565 brand new. I know W7 would be a better option but it requires bigger enclosure and also more expensive.
N the other question is do i have to make sealed of ported box for the subs? I know ported box will give more spl but i was told that ported box is crap if it was installed in a sedan? Ported box only good with wagon or van car, is that true?
thanks for your help
cheers

have a look at the soundstream T4 12" sub they are incedible loud and in my opinion are just as loud as or louder than than the w6 subs. I put a pair in a 300c and it shook every car in the parking lot. the box was 4.2 cubic feet ported and it sounds great. As for ported vs. sealed it all depends on the enclosure design and construction. If built properly a ported can sound awsome.

At the price range your looking at you could get a sub with more spl then the W7. Check out the MTX 9500 series 12....close to the W7 in SQ but more SPL. and if your looking for loud...a ported enclosure may be what your looking for...if you have the space. BTW the 9500 retail price tag is 599.99 vs the W7 799.99...i have been a huge JL fan for a long time but with the recent addition of MTX to the shop there may be a change in sub selection.

Hm, i hav lookd at the soundstream subs. They look good, the only think is the box size, its a bit too big, using 2 of these subs will take lots of my boot space.

Checked out the mtx subs. It looks that it is better than W7, there were some review on W7 VS 9500, and the result was absolute victory of 9500. But i was told that these subs have bad suspension as in they break easily, is that true. And btw for spl is better to use ETON PA2802 which is class AB with 1200 W RMS @4ohm or to use AUDISON VRX, dunno wat class, delivers 2000 W RMS @ 1ohm, or 1000 W @2 ohm
cheers

are you set on having 2 subs??? cause 1 sub could still cause insane spl  and crazy SQ. put the money you save into an insane sub like 1 w7  build a tuned ported box and be done with it...  have you looked into RE audio... they make some killer spl subs.. 1 15 of theres would be all any of us needed for a daily driver...
I dont care about who has the bigger name in the business... The Bigger the name the Bigger the price. NO BETTER QUALITY!!!

For once, I am going to agree with you!   You do not need 2 woofers to be loud, if you can build the proper enclosure for the sub, and give it aduquit power, you will be fine.
Good brands to look at
Kicker L7 or Solo X
FI car audio (RE with more options)
Resonant Engineering XXX or MX series
MTX 9500
The JL W7 is also loud and clean!
