I bought a Pioneer GM-5000GT off a buddy for 40 bucks...the Left RCA jack is broken, but the kid told me he had it splitted. I ended up buyin a American Bass XO-1044 10'' with a box. A friend and I hooked up the patch cables, power, ground, and remote wire last night. Ive double checked the wires at least a half dozen times...this is the problem. The amp is on the blue light comes right on sp ik its gettin power...on the back of my reciever(Eclipse 5444) there are 4 sets of rca's(Fixed out, input out, input out, mids/highs. I used fixed out and got a hint of power out of the sub, although the subs was hardly hitting the lights were dimming realy bad. The splitter i bought (American Bass) wasnt even working i had to put the patch cable in the broken rca jack. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but the battery is only a couple months old.

so what's the question? lights dimming or subs not playing?

Whatever you do, DO NOT let the white smoke leak out of the wires.....

sounds to me like something wrong with the amp. if it's got some broken parts, something could have shorted. try another amp to verify the preouts from the radio are working.

I hooked up my buddys profile california series 1200 to the sub and nothing working still...could the alternator cause this?

You say the amp is coming on, which means you have power and ground. If your lights are severely dimming, you can cause damage to all the electronics on your car. The battery is used to filter out the voltage produced by the alternator, however it can't do this effectively if you outdraw the charging system. I recommend upgrading the big 3, followed by a high output alternator if needed. Until this is addressed, crank your system at your own risk.

Are the subs moving, but just not getting very loud regardless of volume? If so, remove one of the rca's and see if it magically increases. If it does, switch the wires to one of the subs and see how it sounds.

if your buddys amp did the same thing, the problem is either in your rca cables or in the head unit. if you have a dmm, check the rca connecters for continuity to chassis ground and to each other. one of them could be pinched.

I unhooked one and nothing happened still can hear anything. I know its not the amp because the other amp didnt work, we pulled the profile out of my dudes car. If i turn my cd player past 60 is turns off now...nv use to do that and i know the ground is good because i just checked it...i dont know whats going on

You didn't answer my question- are the subs moving or not? Did you try both sides or just one? If you set the balance controls all the way to the right or to the left, does the bass increase? This will do the same thing as unplugging the rca's. If none of that works, try swapping the rca cables behind the deck- go from the sub out to front or rear out. If you have bass, you may have something defeated inside the head unit (a sound setting). Otherwise your deck itself may be the culprit.

did you buy he sub new or used.. could the sub be blown?

I dont care about who has the bigger name in the business... The Bigger the name the Bigger the price. NO BETTER QUALITY!!!
