Howdy ya'll! Back in the summer I picked up a used Panasonic "ghost" head unit with a trade for some used seats I had layin around. Only bad part of the deal was that the CD player didn't work. Said what the heck, i'll put it in my beater bronco since that stock radio didn't work at all. Lately I've been drivin my '88 most of the time and was wonderin' if anyone had some inside knowledge on why when a CD is inserted, the display simply says "disk" and stays on track "00"
Otherwise happy with it and my 0 dollar install by just bending the tabs to the stock trim ring of the 87-91 style fords.

It probably is not detecting a disc in the cd player and by saying "disc" its saying that it does not have a disc in it. More than likely the laser in the hu is not properly working and is not reading that a cd is in there. Just a thought though as I don't know too much about the inner workings of a cd player. Maybe try and see how much it would cost to service.

One of 2 things with your deck     1  the laser pickup is out and it will be cheaper to replace it.  or  2   the spindle motor is bad or needs a shot of wd-40 through the 2 holes on bottom of motor.    more than likely it is the pickup

Why did you trade seats that you probably could have sold on ebay for more than a junk cd player is worth for a JUNK cd player.... did he tell you the cd player was dead.. if not then why didnt you test it b4 trading?

Thanks for the info guys!
djs, I had the seats sittin' around in the shop for takin up room for two years, and never felt they would be worth the shipping for ebay. My friend then bought a beater bronco with no seats, and my beater bronco had a non working stock radio. So the trade was even up as far as I'm concerned.
Already I'm 100percent satisfied with a working unit, readable display, 18 presets, and while it never made sense to be before, but I absolutely love the remote. So I'm not gonna lose sleep over a CD player, just wonderin if there was a stupid easy fix.
