Have a Panasonic HU to replace Factory Bose unit(still works). I will be getting a Soundgate XR4 (line converter) and then the wiring harness adapter(into car).

HU to Converter to Adapter to Harness.

How to deal with the factory Bose amplifier(s). I have not used a line converter before, I understand it is to create a differential (Balanced) audio signal for the amps and to lower the signal from the aftermarket HU. Do I connect it to the speaker outputs(18x4) or the 1 set of low level preamps outs 2v from the Panasonic.

I do not wish to rewire the car and replace speakers if I can avoid it. I am new to amps in general. What powers them up? Is it the External amp control power lead and Ground lead for each of the four speakers?

Its very simple and you are on the right track for the most part. The adjustable converter is connected the the high level speaker outputs of the new deck..and the other side goes to the bose system input wires at the dash..which look just like any other speaker wires.

You hook up the remote wire to turn the bose amp(s) on with the head unit.

The harness adaptor you will use will line up all the power, ground, remote, speaker wires etc. color coded so no cutting of the factory harness will be needed, and very little chance for mistakes.

See... if you use the preamp level into the bose it won't have enough voltage to play loud enough, so those won't be used. If you hook the speaker wires directly in..you would have noise problems..and input impedance issues. Those speaker outputs from the internal amp of the new deck are meant to run a 4ohm load..there is no way to know if the Bose inputs are correct, so the adjustable converter fixes that..and allows you to adjust the levels to prevent overdriving the bose system., a beautiful thing.
