Hi. I'm wiring a Sony GT510 to an aftermarket wiring harness for that car.
The harness provides ILLUMINATION wire (orange) as well as DIMMER wire (ORANGE / black).
The Sony provides ILLUMINATION wire (ORANGE / white) but no DIMMER wire.
According to Hyundai's pin-outs, the connector has a pin for ILLUMINATION(+), but nothing for dimmer.
How should I proceed? I've read I don't have to wire any of them, but for proper illumination, should I wire the ILLUMINATION lead (orange on the harness - to ORANGE / white on the radio) and tape off the dimmer lead - or some other configuration?
I'm looking for proper function without tapping into anything outside the harness, but don't want to risk messing up her dash lights, dimming or battery.
Thanks in advance
Dan

Edit/Clarification:
The Hyundai's pinouts has an ILLUMINATION (+) which corresponds to the harness Illumination wire...
AND
it has an ILLUMINATION (-) which corresponds to the harness DIMMER wire.
Still unsure about which to connect my head unit's "illumination" to, if at all.

The purpose of the illumination wire is to dim the unit a predetermined (not adjustable) amount whenever the parking lights are on. The Sony illumination wire needs a 12 volt source to accomplish this. Whichever wire in the harness shows 12 volts with the lights on (independent of the dimmer position) is the wire to connect. You are correct, these wires are not required for the unit to function properly, only to dim the display.
The dimmer wire will adjust the brightness of the display corresponding to the dimmer switch position. If you wanted, you could run a wire from the dimmer switch, but it's not necessary. You will never connect both the dimmer wire and the illumination wire, since they serve different purposes.

Many thanks !
The sony wiring layout shows 'illumination +' - so I'll connect that to 'illumination +' on the harness.
I'll ignore the harness wire going to 'illumination -' (which is labled as dimmer on the harness)

It wouldn't hurt to test just to be sure. Also be sure you isolate/insulate the ends of any unused wires. This way, nothing will short and cause you any kind of problems.

Thanks!
I did the install today. For anyone doing the same install, here's what I found
- I connected the HU Illumination lead to the harness Illumination lead - and taped off the harness Dimmer lead.
The headlights dim the HU display to a preset level, not controlled by the car's dimmer pot.
As far as physical install, the HU bracket was not used, nor was the Crutchfield 'installation kit'. Just connecting the existing pocket brackets directly to the HU seemed to do the trick. Due to the small fascia opening, it wouldn't fit - nor would the HU trim ring. With the removable face plate on, it's a decent looking install. Prior to putting the fascia back on, I'd recommend dressing out the edges with electrical tape or black foamcore... but only for those really fussy.
