I just recently purchased a car that had an aftermarket Sony 10 disc cd changer in the trunk and set with a fm tuner to use it. The aftermarket headunit i have from my old car that i just installed in it is a Jvc. The headunit has cd changer controls built in. Can i run a different brand cd changer with my headunit or does it had to be brand and model specific to work?

Nope. Not directly at least. If it came with a seperate controller and is wired through a FM modulator then it should be no problem.
