Initially, I was going to use the GTR10 radiators with these but I'm not going to be able to fit them in and maintain the design I want. So now, I am considering going with a ported enclosure and was wondering if anyone else has used the G5 subs in a ported box--if so, how did it sound? I've built boxes before for subs at the ported/vented specs and though many sounded great, some sounded horrible.

Here is what you need either way:

I would try to sqeeze in the GTRs if AT ALL possible. I haven't heard them without them but I know they are wayy worth it. Can you downfire the GTRs? I don't know what kind of space you're working with but this wouldn't require much.

I went ahead and did it ported. Specs with the sub called for 1.3 cu.ft. with a 3x11 port, 35Hz tuning. I ran the T/S parameters through Bass Box Pro and designed a box that was 1.26 c.f. with a 3x12 port, tuned to 32.6Hz. The sound is fabulous! I am thoroughly impressed with how these things sound! each is wired at 2ohms and pushed by a Kicker DX700. It turned out very well.

Hmm. You used the GTR in a ported box? Odd, i've not heard of that...

Great SQ, huh? I'm Really impressed. I mean, I did switch over from KickerComps!boston g5 dvc 10's sealed or ported? -- posted image. Does it hit real low? In my oversized sealed box (all the weights from GTR removed...), this sucker hits real low, underpowered!

Could you post the exact specs for this box -for one G5 10" and GTR 10"? I'd like to try something different with it. Thanks.

No, I just did a ported box for the G5. Initially, I was goign to use a GTR10 with it but I was seriously ready to go on with the install. It hits very low. For years, I've used Kicker, namely b/c I worked for a dealer. I no longer work for a dealer (I'm actually a school psychologist) and have since carried on car audio as a nearly 20yr old hobby of mine. The G5 is a breath of fresh air in my opinion, compared to the Kickers. The response doesnt sound as muddy as what I've been used to with solobarics. I'm not through playing with it though so I may have more to add.

I can post the specs but you can get them here: http://bostonacoustics.com/manuals/G5_GTR_Man.pdf

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Do you have any software to play around with?

I'm sorry, I confused myself and thought you were using the G5 and PR in a ported box. Ooops!

Yeah, these suckers rock! The SQ is amazing. Soo much midbass (vs Kickers). Im 21, my last (and only real) 'decent' system consisted of 2KickerComp10's, off this same amp, same load. The G5 is way louder, way lower, way better sounding! I have them (G5+GTR10") in a 1.8cuft sealed box. I know, its huge. I had to take all the weights out of the GTR to 'tune' it back up. Don't get me wrong, I like it real low, but with the stage2 weights in this box that is 3times the rec. volume it was toooo low! I gained alot of output by taking the weights out. It's still nice and low!

Thanks and sorry for confusing meself!
