Newbie with newbie-type question.

Replacing a blown rear speaker in a 94 325i BMW convertible. Stock is one-way midrange with separate wired tweeter. Putting 2 way in the hole, need to know whether to simply disconnect the stock tweeter, splice the stock tweeter to the new 2 way or something else entirely.

I 've done both, either leave the tweeter, or simply disconnect it. Since you are adding another tweeter, you may you wont need the facotry one.

Or, you could buy some inexpensive component speakers and do it right.

One more thing dwarren didn't mention (maybe because he knows better) but in the Harman Kardon system in the BMW's the mid and the tweeter have a crossover that separates the frequencies between the two and if you put a speaker in place of the mid it will only play mid frequencies and the same for the tweet. I don't remember for sure though if that system was available in the 94 so this may be completely irrelevant and dwarren would be 100% right.

Hmm.. I'm not sure I totally agree with dwarren here. Extra tweeters behind your head is never a good thing.. I'd dump the tweeter and just leave the 2-way as is.

Don't have the HK setup. I just put it back kind of like stock, left the tweeters wired to the original harness, re-ran the existing woofer wire to the new 2 ways. Sounds OK, not great, most of the bass is coming out of the front it seems. All I have hooked up is the radio and a cassette deck so my hi-fi listening is limited. I'll have to look for a changer or a head unit with a front load player in it.
