I know it is posible to hook up an aftermarket amplifier for subwoofers to the factory head unit, but I'm not sure on how to do it, could someone please help me out.

Yes, you will need a high to low converter if the amp does not have high level inputs already built in. If the system is amplified, you wil need to catch the speaker wires on the output side of the factory amp.
