I'm putting a set of components into a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the Infinity stereo package. What I am installing is a set of JBL components. Because I am using the factory amp (for now) and it only sends the higher freq. to the tweeters and the lower freq. to the drivers in the door, will I damage the speakers (Or more importantly the tweeters) if I install them right to the factory wiring and not use the crossovers until I get an aftermarket amp?
Thanks.

Last time I checked, the stock wires for the stock woofer wont have any crossover on it, and if it does it will only have a low pass crossover, so you can use the stock woofer wires for the input on your aftermarket crossover and wire up your components the way JBL designed them to be.
Hopefully someone else more experienced with your vehicle can chime in to advise.

In the event that the factory amp has onboard active crossovers the frequencies and slopes will not likely be what your speakers require. In other words NO. Don’t do it you have no way of knowing what you will end up with. Weak sound or blown speakers. Just roll up your sleeves and install your components correctly, crossovers and all.
