I have a 1981 Yamaha Chappy lb50.  It runs on 6 volts, however I was looking to upgrade the 2 stroke 50cc motor to a Lifan 125cc (CDI 12V).

My biggest concern is how would I convert the bike to 12v, are the switches (blinkers, stop, horn, high beam switch and indicators) going to work ok with the 12v, I know I must change the bulbs and horn to a 12v style, as well as the battery.

Or is there an alternative out there that reduces the 12v down to 6 for the electronics on the moped to function?

Switches are going to be fine.  The only problem would be the Ignition, (if you were keeping the stock powerplant)  All should be fine.  You will need to change all indicator bulbs and guage illumination as well.  Use the flasher assy off of the donor bike as well.

Oh wait, we need to see pictures to help you.  Not really.  But pics would be nice.

Thanks for the quick response!  The gauge cluster has 3-4 bulbs in it (not completly sure if it can be disassembled), the ignition is actually a magneto on the old motor, but the new one comes with CDI (with relay, im sure it will wire up to factory key w/o problems).  Do they make something to lower the voltage of the battery from 12 to 6?  That would be ideal, that way I could run the new motor to the new 12v battery, off the battery I can lower the voltage to 6 so nothing needs to be touched, just not sure if they make something that does that (and is reasonably priced)

The motor is coming from ebay not from another bike: http://www./itm/230385834458?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Some metal fab work is needed for exhaust, the biggest thing holding me back is the electronics part of it, im sure I can find a flasher relay on ebay as well, it has 10,803 miles and only tops out around 23 mph, does need a new seat cover and has 1 replacement mirror but everything else is original.

While you are at, put LED lights on it, the last well more and they are much brighter.
Good luck
