I am very new to this...bear with me.   I have a boat that I am installing a sub in. I am currently running a 40wx4 pioneer cd deck with a Sony 1000w amp 2 ch. I have 2 6x9 explodes and 2- 6" explodes. I want to be able to crank it louder without the distortion and still have plenty of base. I purchased a 500w 10" fosgate sub in a sub enclosure. I want to know how to wire this into my current system. should I use the amp for the sub only and just use the deck for my 4 speakers? Are my speakers going to be not as loud if I do that, because i have no amp with them anymore? Can I wire in another amp for these speakers? One more ? What filters should I use for the smaller speakers and which one for the single sub? sorry for the questions, I hope someone is simple enough and kind enough to help me out. I not an idiot...but I do need help with car audio...obviously.

If you want to keep your speakers from distorting(the 6 X 9s and 6.5 speakers) without an amp I would buy some bass blockers. This would keep bass from your coaxials so they wouldn't distort and give your cd player's amplifier an easier load to power. I would then power your coaxials with your pioneer deck. Then use the 2 channel amp with your sub in bridged mode. If you post up or Private Message me the specs of the sub and amp then I could give you more detailed information about how to set it up.

so you are saying to use the sony explode 1000 watt amp for the fosgate 500 watt sub (10"), and connect the four speakers to the cd player directly using the bass blockers. I was sold some Speaker Savers as bass blockers:(200hz @ 4 ohms) non-polar 10% capacitor. I also got some 6x9 speaker enclosures so that I can set them out on the open bow when I am at the beach. Are these OK to use? I can't read any info off of the sub. It came in the enclosure from best buy. The info isn't on the magnet either. I tried looking in the enclosure with an inspection light.   The speakers are all standard sony explodes from Sears as well as the 1000w amp. on another post I saw where this amp puts out 185 watts per channel RMS.
-1000w sony explode amp 2 channel
-2- 6.5 explodes
-2- 6x9 explodes
-1 - 10" fosgate sub
pioneer 40wX4 cd player.
I'm not sure what you mean by coaxials. or "cd player's amp" vs "powering my coaxials with my pioneer deck."
I am afraid of losing too much volume by taking the sub away from my 6x9's and 6.5's. In a boat, you lose a lot of volume in the air. Can I run another amp to power the smaller speakers or would this be a waist of money?

Sorry if i confused you. the CD player's amp I was referring to is your pioneer cd player's amp. Coaxials are speakers like your that have a tweeter mounted on top of a woofer(your 6.5" and 6 X 9 speakers). I would use an external amp for your Sony speakers. Is your Rockford Sub take 500 watts RMS or 500 watts max? This is very important, because if its an RMS rating then your sony amp would be fine for it. If the Rockford sub only takes 500 watts max then I think the sony amp would be too much power for just one sub. Ask the people you bought it from for answers. I would reccomend buying another Rockford sub if that is the amps RMS to use with the sub you have right now(which should give you the extra volume you would need on a boat). I still need to know the modle number of your amp though. this way I can look up its specs so I know if it really does output 185 watts RMS. To power those sony speakers I would use an MTX Thunder6304( if you buy off of crutchfield.com you save $220 on it right now) or a US Acoustics USB-4065 (this is a good inexpensive amp). The MTX would give you 40 watts X 4 RMS which should drive those speakers well and the US Acoustics would give you 65 watts X 4 which would power them even better. I wont be on untill around tommorrow afternoon so Personal Message me or Post the specs if want someone else to answer for you.

I just read your Private Message right after I posted my last reply. yes you can use the output to give another amp a signal and leave the bass boost alone probobly. Do a search on this site for gain settings to learn how to set the knob that say -6 to 3 volts. It dosnt say a modle number on the bottom of your amp? If it does then look on somewhere like google for your amps specs or take it to the place you bought it from and they should tell you its information. If you do take it in make sure to get the RMS power rating. Same for your sub.

I will check on these things and let you know. Thanks so much for your help so far. I had the model # right in front of me on my notes from when I went out in my boat and checked. It is a a XM-2165 GTX. Is this the number you are looking for? I'll call best buy on the sub specs. Thanks again. J.

I found my sub on crutchfield.com. The way it looks, my model number is HE-RFP4810. It's an 8 ohm sub (what does that mean to me and my setup?) freq resp. 32-200HZ, power is only 50-200watts RMS. sens. 85.5.

You also need to take the fact that this is more like home audio (open air) when it comes time to build an enclosure. Also, it is fine to use a 1000 watt amp on a 500 watt sub, just make sure that you adjust the gains PROPERLY. Distortion kills speakers, NOT power.

It may also be the HE_RFP4410 which is a 4 ohm speaker. I'll have to call and find out. I don't know how they have it put into this enclosure. It looks like it's in there pretty good, to get it out and look at the numbers.

I found the receipt, it is an 8 ohm RFP4810 sub. not the 4410.
