I have a 2004 Trailblazer, and I picked up a factory DVD player a few months ago. After having done extensive reading here there and everywhere, I was pretty hopeless about getting it working:

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=50354&PN=0&tpn=1

All it came with was a cut off length of cable from the player, and I had no idea where it was supposed to plug into. Everyone I spoke to told me the cable should be up in the headliner for it to plug into. I dropped my headliner (sort of), but could not find the cable. What's really weird is that the plastic bracket for mounting the player is up there, but no cable that I can see.

One quick question for all in the know, then I will post my solution to getting this thing working.

Does anyone know how to remove the stupid visors from the headliner? Is there some special tool, or am I just an idiot? (please be gentle)

My solution to power up the DVD player/screen:

I did some reading on the Serial Data format that GM uses, and found out some interesting facts. Hopefully I am not posting something that everybody else knows. Under the dash, is the ODB-II connector for connecting scan tools. Pin 2 of that connector is Serial Data. I jacked the GREEN/ Blk wire into that pin, and voila, DVD player powers on and works like a champ. I have NOT attempted to connect the audio output, as I only plan on using it with the headphones, and will hopefully not need those wires.

For every bodies info:

ODB-II connector:

Pin 2 Serial Data

Pin 4 Power Ground

Pin 16 Switched Power

My ODB-II only has 4 pins wired, and they are pins 2,4,5,16. Pin 5 should be Signal Ground according to what I have read.

I hope that helps everybody out there.

Paul
