2003 malibu remote start

Does this car need the transponder even if the key is the flat metal blade style? I tried to hotwire it just to check and it starts but then shuts right off. Thanks in advance.

The 2003 Malibu uses Passlock II and not a transponder. You need an interface for this to allow the car to stay running.
