Hi every one this is my first post here and I need some help.
This unit is in a 2006 ford f150 5.4
--First is when you start the truck with the remote then go to adjust the heater control knobs with out the key in it kills the engine....
--Second the other morning I started the truck with the remote, it started, then after about 4 seconds it killed the engine, then it retried to start it, it started and ran again for about 4 seconds then killed the engine again.. then would not retry. I started it again with the remote it started and ran for about 4 second again
then shut down... Tried it again only to have it do the same thing... it has only done this one time during this start up.
---Today started the truck with the remote starter and stayed running, then went to unlock the doors with the remote, then it killed the engine when I hit the unlock button......went to see
if I could have it do it again.... nope works fine, tried later and works like it should.
It's like that all of these problems started after I hooked up the tach wire, But I know I am at the right one because the unit programmed fine, and honked
every three seconds to confirm the tach signal.
Thanks for the help
Josh

This is where I think your problem is too. Did you go to a fuel injector or the tachometer wire for this signal? It sounds to me kind of like when you activate any electrical accessory it drops the voltage on the line that you are tapped into and the remote start sees this and shuts down. Does the system you have offer any type of diagnostics? Can the system tell you what the reason for shutting down was?

I picked it up at the ignition coil...
As far as it having a diagnostics system I dont delieve so.... The weired thing is that it does not do it every time....

I can only speak from my own experience, but on Ford vehicles I use only a fuel injector for tachometer reference. Although I can not speak on your specific model year I can say that the 01 F150 behaves as you are describing with the inconsistent starting. Some times it will start fine then others it will stop right before it catches. Moving to the injector it starts every time, in 01 I made it a rule to only use an injector in Fords with a 100% success rate since then.

Thanks Twelvoltz, I will try switching it to a fuel injector when I get some time off work.
Anybody else have any ideas, or have the unit I am talking about?
Thanks for the help!

well, I have more problems...I first posted about this problem https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~100097~PN~4 , after switching the tach wire over to a fuel injector it solved all of those problems.
Now when it is down to around zero the truck will not start on the first try, but the unit will retry a second time which then it start, but if it is in the teens or above it will start on the first try...so that is telling me the unit is not cranking long enough...right?
The unit is in tach mode and has learned a tach signal, It also states in the installation book when in tach mode it will crank for four seconds or until the vehicle has started, which it is not.
I called tech support and they said to try a different fuel injector, I don't think this in the problem as when in the teens and above it starts the first time, so it must me getting a tach signal right?
Please help me
06 ford f150 5.4L
Thanks Josh
