remote starters and carburetors?

I have recently met a guy that has a shop with customers that still drive carbureted cars. He has asked me about putting remote starters on them. I have never even thought about what would need to be done in order to pump the gas before starting. I know some kind of solenoid will be needed. In the 2 posts I find here back from '02 and '03 mentioned a piece by Autocommand that I can't seem to find info on, and that Astroflex used to have special outputs for doing this. Anyone have any current or very specific info on how to do this, or where to aquire the parts?

Correct, but I was thinking it may have had a multi-pulse output to simulate pumping a couple times. The Scyteks also have the programable pulse outputs. Anyway to make that a multi pulse output, kinda like a double pulse unlock? I won't be able to use the unlock wire as I'm sure some of the cars will have power locks. Also, any info on how to actually mount the solenoids?

ive done one i used a trunk popper to pulled back on cable, just use an aux ch. i live in florida so i was not worried about colder areas. also make sure car is in good running order lot times dont need to use gas to much to start car. only had to hit aux ch 2-3 times

i dont know much about the astro starters, but with the DEI's, you could use the factory disarm wire (programmed as double pulse) to activate the solenoid on the throttle cable. I dont know if it would work or not b/c the pulses are so short, but this would allow the starter to pulse the solenoid twice just before starting. Just an idea.Kenny

And every time you remote start it, then unlock your doors, the car will rev the engine.

I used to do a lot of carbureted cars back in the day. Heck, back when I started installing remote starters only a few cars were fuel injected. If the car won't start with one pulse on the throttle before cranking, then I suggest you not do it. Have the car tuned up first, otherwise it will be back all the time for problems. You need a strong solenoid to pull the throttle back far enough to set the choke. A power trunk solenoid should have enough power to do the job. Remember it will require about 10 amps of power for most of these units. Be careful in hooking up to the throttle so that it doesn't cause any safety issues while driving like causing the throttle to jam. Many remote starters have an ouput which will pulse prior to remote start. This will work to activate a relay to power the solenoid. You could also use an aux output to activate the relay prior to starting. In this manner, you can also give the throttle another pulse any time needed. You can use it to set the carb into low idle after it warms up.sparky
