Hi Guys , I have a very tricky one for you .

The car was stolen - ignition 1/2 ripped out and hot wired . But it started and ran really well so I bought it very cheap . Day I picked it up , it would not start for owner so we re did deal and on the trailer it went . Got more off  price so I wasn't too concerned - but I do have to get it to start now .

So it doesn't yet have a new ignition . The owner just contacted the right wires - all just hanging down free , and she ran . I haven't yet bought the new agnition so I still just have the wire contact method .

It turns over , all sounds very good , strong , happy , just won't fire . immobiliser is stopping all fire ups.

I found the 97 kia diagram here , by the way this place is unreal . Is it loaded with info or what , fantastic but I'm afraid both disarm wires didn't do anything , still won't fire and dash ledlight is still flashing . I tried the 98 and the 97 - different .

Would anyone have any suggestions as I am not in an area where I can get an auto elec out to atleast not without blowing 5 or 600 bucks .

I know she's tricky not having the ignition but hey , the theives didn't have any problem and it would be nice to double check it running before I spend any more money on it.

Cheers

Monkey do.

MOst of the people on here are from the United States. The US version of the 97 Sportage does not have an immobilizer. A version built for Australia may be different. I would check all the fuses in the car first. There is a good chance one of the ignition fuses is blown. May be one of the bigger fuses located in the engine compartment fuse box.

Thanks for reply .

I should have added a few other details also. I can get all the electrics working , CD , blinkers , dash lights, fan, windows , wipers , mainly seems to be the motor shut down.

Yeah mine's has  immobiliser unfortunately. Spose what I really need is a theif hey .There is a 97 diagram here and 98 - this one is late 97 and I found the door panel disarm wire that is on the 98 diagram , it might have both so I'll look for the 97 wire today .

As far as I can tell all those fuses are good , none broken . Maybe a relay or something but how to check them i'm not sure , Hvae read up but all seem ok .All the fuses and relays seem same and in same spots as any I've looked at here .

Mine has the key fob , with a hole stabbed through the middle of it so that's not much help .What's left of key part of ignition is jambed up , looks like they took a screwdriver to it .

But that was all same when I viewed car , we actually took it out for drive and all went very nice .He says it just stopped firing and immobiliser's locked it up .

Cheers
