I just had the AvantGuard 5.1 installed in my 2001 Yukon Denali.  Very nice alarm.  Except my installer thinks he got something mixed up in the wiring and he is puzzled what it could be.  Sometimes when I back out of a parking spot the engine stalls.  Then I restart the engine and move forward a few feet and it stalls again.  This started happening for the first time right after I got the alarm installed and it is very intermittent, like 1 time out of 20.  First I thought it was the negative battery terminal which was loose enough so all the electrical went dark at one point.  I tightening up the terminal, and a couple days later it happened again.  Something is not right with the brake shutoff feature, because when I press the brake the AvantGuard is supposed to shut down the remote start but it does not.  The installer checked the wiring and the brake wire is correct.  This could be related.  I also remember in 2002 when I had the AvantGuard 4 (earlier model) installed in the same car, the installer had a lot of problems overrining the factory alarm system (which would shut off the fuel leaving me stranded in different places).  I wonder if the first installer did something strange to my car's wiring to defeat passlock that makes it tricky for the second installer who replaced it with the version 5 system.  Just my non expert idea.  Despite the install challenges the AvantGuard is a top notch alarm, the best out there I think.  When the correct wires are hooked up..

Something is seriously wrong with this vehicle or with the install if it's causing those problems. It's downright dangerous if your truck stalls out in the middle of a left turn - you should have it fixed right away.
I would suspect that the original installer used some kind of ignition or fuel cutoff which is intermittently malfunctioning. Both are bad ideas for a number of reasons - the only thing that an aftermarket alarm should ever interrupt is the starter.
If your current installer finds something like that have him return the circuit(s) back to factory spec.
I would probably rule out a Passlock problem. Passlock doesn't interrupt anything once the car's been started correctly, even if the wires lose connection to the key cylinder.

thanks Chris.   Here is an update and it remains a mystery.  Another symptom that I forgot to mention is that sometimes the car keeps running after I remove the key, just as if I were to do a shortstop (star key before turning off ignition) but in these cases all I did was to initially start the car with remote start, and I did not press any button on the remote after stopping.  The installer showed me that if the key is only put in the accessory position, the rev limiter will shut down the engine at a certain RPM.  But I'm pretty sure I wasn,t driving the car with the key in the accessory position.  I am wondering if maybe, on an intermittent basis, whether the alarm doesn't know that the car was started and it shuts down based on RPM (when it was really started).  My other theory was if the Denali's own alarm system is cutting the fuel (however you said passlock won't stop it after it is started).  The first time I had the G4 model installed the first installer had a hard time bypassing the factory fuel cutoff.  hmmm

Did the Avantguard 4 you had have the wireless immobilizer installed? If so, maybe the installer who put the new unit in didn't remove the wireless immobilizer. I think the problem would happen every time if this is the case, but it could be the problem.
I would also have the installer check the brake connection again for the remote start. Sounds like there could be a problem there as well.

yes I'm pretty sure I had the wireless immobilizer installed with the AvantGuard 4.  The installer of the AvantGuard 5.1 didn't say anything about it.  I wonder, if that was causing the engine to stop why it would be intermittent (wouldn't it just always fail to start, by not getting the right signal).  The time when the engine stops does seem consistent with the immobilizer 20-second verification period.  I'll suggest this idea to the installer, thanks for the suggestion.

It happened again, still puzzled.  It's not the wireless immobilizer because the installer said that was removed.  After watching the shuttle landing at Edwards AFB, I was pulling out of the parking area... backed out of the parking space, moved forward about 1000 feet while the engine revved up to about 1,800 rpm and then pressed the brake for traffic ahead of me.  Then the engine stopped.  The radio went dead.  I had to start it up again with the key.  The clue that I noticed this time is that I lost accessory power to the radio.  It's like if I were to turn off the key while driving.  So I'm guessing maybe there is a faulty connection in the ignition switch?  While installed the AvantGuard and tapping into the ingnition wires, could a bad connection do this?  What electrical thing could cause the engine to stop completely while driving?

A bad connection to the ignition switch could cause all of the problems. I would suggest checking the main steering column connector to see if it's loose for some reason - also check where the remote start is connected.

when you had the alarm installed, did you have to re-adjust the steering column? i think the wires for the remote start are probably too tight are are somehow caught on the steering column. make sure no wires are in the way of moving parts like the pedals and that nothing is tied to the moving part of a steering column it also sounds like a loose connection somewhere just judging from the fact that it only happens some of the time. but you should have your installer check each pin on the ignition harness to make sure they are snug. and dont rule out installer ignorance, try to get a second opinion from another installer because sometimes small things get missed and they turn into big problems once the cars leave the shop. but other than that it just sounds like something really simple and stupid that somebody just didn't think to check for

as a gmc tech  ,

you may have other problems

1. defective igntion sw

2. low idle speed causing stalls   your yukon has drive by wire

once it looses battery power (ie. just install rs) it cant keep idle speed

that is corrected by cleaning the throttle body and reseting the batt.

i hope this can help you ,

Interesting, thanks for the expert tips!  What additional clues are provided by the fact that this only occurs when I first leave the parking space?  i.e. it never happens when I'm driving on the road or when I'm stopped at a red light.  It always happens within the first minute or two after driving away (after using remote start to start the vehicle).  If it was a faulty ignition switch or low idle speed wouldn't the car stop sometimes when I'm doing normal driving in city traffic?
