I am installing a keyless entry system in an 03 impala it has a one wire lock system, an according to any diagram I can find needs a 470 ohm resistor to lock the doors. I have hit a road block I can get the doors to unlock but not lock, am I missing a step? I really dont have exterience with resistors, Is it possible to have different 470ohm resistors? I know these are probably simple questions but im absolutly stumped and would really appreaciate any all guidance you all can give me.

thanks

You need to place a 470 ohm resistor inline of the LOCK wire in order for the locks to work. Go to an electronics parts store and pick up a package of these or if they're nice they might have one in the back of the shop and sell it to you individually.

I actually did try a 470 inline resistor with no luck thats what confusses me. I dont know if when I went to get the resistor from the electronics store if they sold me one that doesent work with automotive electircal. when you order the resistor is it just 470ohm thats it or is there anything else that one should specify?

thanks again

Take the resistor that you have and wrap it to a spare wire and attach one end to the WHITE door lock wire and touch the other end to ground. With the doors open you will need to double pulse the wire. If the doors are closed you will only need one pulse. If the doors lock, then chances are you either don't have a strong enough ground on the LOCK pulse from the CPU or you didn't know about the double pulse when door open to lock or the resistor is infact bad or not the proper value.

I will definatly try that I had in fact been going to the ORANGE / black wire at the bcm, Just so I am 100% attach the resistor to the white wire then to a ground at the switch, does it stay there perminatly? where does the other feed from the keyless entry system ( the lock wire ) attach ? the orange /black at the bcm or the white on the door.

I really appreciate all of this Jeff ,

jlazurca, if you're using the low current (-) outputs from your keyless and not using a relay for the lock, that could cause the problem you're having.
The low current transistorized outputs from a typical aftermarket keyless entry/RS/alarm have some internal resistance to ground and when connected through a separate resistor will usually not send the right value to the BCM on the car. Using a relay to ground solves that problem.

When doing a  relay to ground does it install inline from the keyless unit to the wire at the bcm? and what should one ask for at the electronics store for type of relay.

you guys are very helpful, thanks

Bosch-style automotive SPDT relay - auto parts store would have them also, and try to get one with a wiring harness if they have one, to save yourself the hassle of crimping the terminals.
Relay is wired as follows:
85 - negative output from your keyless control module
86 - constant fused 12V +
87 - ground
30 - lock wire on the car.
The 470 ohm resistor must be installed inline on the wire going to 87 or the wire going to 30 - it doesn't matter which one.

As dumb as this sounds i get it a lot, be sure your locks lock when the door is open. With the door open does the lock button on the door work?
