I had a DEI Sidewinder 6500esp installed in my 2000 Chevy Malibu for about 4 years, and one day last year it just stopped working. Remotes didn't work, it didn’t auto-lock my doors, nothing. I checked all fuses and the power/ground wires entering the brain and everything seemed nominal, so I just assumed that the brain died. I also opened the brain up to see if I could see any burnt components, but didn’t find anything.

Anyways, I’ve had an ebay search setup for a Sidewinder 6500esp ever since, hoping that I can just buy another one and simply connect the new brain up to my existing harnesses. I really don’t want to go through all of the trouble of rewiring the entire system. Since I haven’t been able to acquire a Sidewinder 6500ESP, does anyone know of brains that use compatible harnesses? I guess as long as the wires are the same, I could also clip the harness and solder the new harness onto my existing harness. The main thing is that I don’t want to have to pull my car apart and dig for wires again.

If I'm testing a dead system, on the workbench, this is what I do. Make sure you have a push button plugged into the blue valet switch port, and a LED plugged into the white LED port. Power the unit up. (red and black) power the ignition ON, then OFF then press and release the pushbutton. Does the LED come on (valet mode). If it does, your systems not dead.

If the system is an Alarm and Remote start, when you power it up, it may power up armed, with the siren sounding. Turn the ignition ON, then press and release the pushbutton, does the system turn off within a few seconds? (you may not need this step)

Make sure you have an antenna plugged in. You can try and make it relearn the remotes, the Green (door) input must be grounded, Turn the key ON, press and release, then press and hold the pushbutton (the horn will honk if connected) Press the lock button on your remote, release the pushbutton, turn the ignition off and try.

Does it TRY and learn remotes. Maybe the antennas bad. I dont think your module died.

Well, if the antenna went bad, wouldn't the alarm still lock/unlock doors? Everything stopped working at the same exact time.
