Hello all:

I am installing an Autopage 730 (model # C3-RS-730 LCD) in my 2001 base model Camaro.  The problem I am having is with the remote start.

When I engage the remote start from the remote control, it blows the 15 amp starter fuse under the hood, every time.  The starter does not even click.  If I replace the fuse and use the key to start the car, it works fine (never blows the fuse.)  If I turn the key to the 'ignition on' position and touch a 'temporary hot' wire to the starter wire under the dash (#10 yellow wire going to the factory starter relay ) the car will start.  If I take the key out and activate the remote start, and touch that same temporary hot to the same exact place, the starter fuse will blow.

I have verified that my VATS over-ride is working properly (security light on dash does not blink constantly when remote start activates ignition circuit.)  I did not install the starter kill circuit (provided with the alarm) since the car already has the factory VATS.

I installed a relay that emulates the clutch pedal being depressed (ground output of relay is hooked to open side of the clutch safety switch {not hooked to the "clutch anticipate switch."})

"Check Level" type is set to "Voltage Type" ("RPM/Tach" type is disabled.)  "Nuetral Safety Switch" input, and "Diesel Wait-to-Start" inputs are both attached to the Camaro's parking brake lever wire (grounded while engaged.)

It almost seems that the factory starter circuit is somehow grounded when the key is off (ignition lock cylinder is in the 'off' position.)

Has anyone ever seen this problem?  Please help if you can. (All other funtions of the alarm work perfectly.)

{I am sure I left out info that you need, please send as many questions that you need answered.}

Thanks in advance.

I have never had this problem...Once with an Ignition fuse...The relay was wired wrong...Your going to want to test the output of the starter wire on r/s...Its got to be the wrong wire or something...When it blows...Does all the dash lights come on during r/s...Or nothing happens and fuse blows...?

Might be kind of tedious...But could you post your wiring w/ the above descriptions... also heres the vats diagram... http://documents.audiovox.com/700052.pdf ... So if you just leave the starter wire from the r/s off...And attempt to remote start what happens...?

Can that alarm be configured to work on a manual transmission?

If the starter wire "rested at ground" when the key was off you would blow the fuse in the alarm, not the under hood fuse.

Where did you get your main 12vdc power from?  I would bet it would be through that 15A fuse.  Most likely what is happening is you are using a source with not enough current to remote start the vehicle.  You can temporarily run a fused wire right to the battery and see if that fixes the problem.  Generally, you like to see at least 30A of current available on the feed to the remote start.

What happens if you replace the fuse, then with the key off touch the "hot" wire to the starter wire under the dash?

Hello guys.  Thanks for all your responses.  I still have not gotten the remote start to work.  I have tried all of your suggestions with the same result every time.  I am going to take all the relays out and rewire everything and see what happens.  I must have something miswired somewhere.  I verified that the power source that is powering the alarm is not coming from the 15 amp fuse in question.  There must be a short.  I will rewire and then repost my results. Its gonna have to wait for the weekend, though.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hey guys, I figured it out.  I had the relay for the clutch switch bypass wired wrong.

I had term 87 wired to ground and term 30 wired to one side of the clutch switch.

Both 87 and 30 need to wired to the clutch switch (one on each side.)  Anyway, thanks for

all your help and I hope this helps somebody in the future.

Thanks again!!
