python1400xp in 05 santa fe

My wife has a 2005 Hyundai Santa fe, with a Python 1400XP remote starter. It was installed by Circuit City before they went out of business so I can't take it back to them. The only way I can start the car is if I use the remote start. If I put the key in the ignition and turn it, the lights come on and it looks like it is going to start, but it just dims the lights and doesn't crank. She can't remember when this started happening, but now she has to get her car inspected and I don't think it will pass inspection if you have to use a remote to start the car. I found the python unit and it doesn't have a valet switch plugged in nor does it have a LED plugged in. Any suggestions on how I can reset the 1400xp? or some way to disable the system for the inspection? Any tips/tricks would be welcome. Thanks

if you can get to the unit, pull the main fuse for the remote starter. to disable any theft features it has, you'll need a valet button. If you want you can also get to the remote start wiring, you'll see a green and a purple, there should be a wire in the car that was cut, the purple was attached to one end, the green to the other. Just cut the green and purple off, and re-connect the factory wire. You WILL lose remote start capability this way however. If you want to keep remote start but lose the starter disable, re-connect the factory wire, then tap the purple wire into it.MECP Master Certified Technician

if you drop the lower drivers side of your dash and find the wiring that goes to your ingition switch. You should see a blue wire that has been cut in half thats your starter wire for the truck. Like hurleyloser said there should be a green and a purple wire that comes from the remote start going to each side of that cut blue wire (green to the switch side and purple to the starter side) cut the green and purple and reconnect the factory blue wire back together then take the purple wire that comes from your remote start and tie it into the blue wire you just fixed the green wire can just be taped off it wont be needed anymore this way you remove the starter kill but still retain your remote startIf i Can't Install it    I Don't need it   Joe

Thank you both for the replies. Here's the thing, I don't really want to cut any wires or do anything permanent. I was hoping that there was a way to reset the system. Like I said it did work correctly at one point, and I just want to get it back to that. Then again, if there is no way to reset the system, what does removing the starter kill do. I mean, is that the same thing as the antigrind thing? What functionality will I lose if I remove/replace those wires? Thanks

i bet the starter kill / anti grind relay is stuck open go to radio shack buy another relay and unplug the old one and stick in the new one see if that works :)

Is the keyless entry from the Python unit connected to the car? In other words, is she using the OEM Hyundai remote to lock and unlock the doors, or the Python? Regardless, that unit has a starter interrupt, which serves two purposes: 1, when the Python system is locked, prevents the car from being started/stolen, and 2, when remote started, prevents the user from grinding the starter when turning the key to Run to do takeover. So, the first thing to do is to press the Unlock button on the Python remote, and try to start the car? If that doesn't work, then either the starter-interrupt relay is defective as the others have said, or possibly the input wire has come loose. (It's also theoretically possible that the remote starter is fine, is installed correctly, and that the Hyundai's ignition switch is faulty.....but I'd highly doubt it.) Permanent solutions so it won't happen again (you have two options here): 1. As hurley and chev said above, eliminate the starter interrupt entirely, and put the car's original starter wire back together. You'll lose the anti-theft and anti-grind features. 2. Obtain a valet switch and LED, the install guide for the unit, go into the programming menu and turn the starter kill feature off. You'll still have anti grind, but no anti theft. (Plus, the Santa Fe already has a factory alarm, but you MUST use the factory remotes when locking and unlocking.) You could find a valet switch and LED probably for just a few dollars on eBay. Also, most installers seem to have extras laying around.....stop by a local install shop and if the installer's nice, he'll give them to you for a small tip. If you're not comfortable doing the programming yourself, you might find an install shop who will plug in the valet and LED and do the programming for a small fee. Some shops don't want to touch others' work unless they're replacing everything, while others will....you might have to ask at more than one place.
