avantguard 4 intellistart necessary?

Hey all, I just picked up a Clifford AvantGuard 4 and was looking through the install notes. It looks like I can forgo the Intellistart4 entirely and not install the module at all. Is there something I'm missing or can I just not install it? (I have no need for the remote start and I don't want to deal with bypassing the immobilizer on my Prelude.) Thanks!

You can remove the intellistart without a problem on ag4.  However without the intellistart installed you will not have a tach connection for blackjax and rpm doorlocks.  they removed the wire off the main unit harness when shipping and fed it through the databus of the intellistart.  All the other connections are present without the intellistart.  You may be able to insert the wire where the it would have been (pin 5 on 24 pin connector) and gain a tach conncetion.  the ag4 is basically the same brain as a concept 600, ig 9000, and millenia and those had the connection on the main units, but dont quote me on that, i have never done it.  Bypassing the immobilizer on prelude is one of the easier cars, you should put IS4  in and gain the full features of the avantguard.  You will also gain extended accesory power too.  A feature i personally love.   

What's extended accesory power? I wired a few always hot cigar lighter jacks into the center console to charge my phone, etc b/c the cigar lighter in the dash is accessory switched. For the immobilizer bypass I need to buy one the clifford kits? or is there a more simple way. Seems from the forums that unless you tape a key near the lock cylinder, you need to use one of the modules.

Scirocco as usual is absolutely right here.  It was also in my opinion the best alarm R/S EVER made. Alll you have to do is remove the chip from the key and glue using a good acrylic to the antenna surround on your ignition barrel after testing to make sure it works. This wil kill the factory immobiliser but you still have the one from the clifford which if anything is more reliable statisticly than any factory unit.

the extended accessory power  keeps the power windows and radio in operation for 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off or until the door is opened.  i always used a dei 555/556u on these cars  which keeps factory immobilizer intact but still requires a key to be buried in the module. these cars were very friendly to the antenna ring placement and normally worked first shot.   there may be data bypasses for that car as well which will not require a key.  Maybe somebody else can chime in on that one.  I got out of the business right when they were really breaking on the scene.  I used one from dei as well i just don't recall if it worked on the prelude.  Look into it, if you can handle installing a avantguard you can definitely handle bypassing the immobilizer on this vehicle, especially if you go with the key in the box method.

No problems with this vehicle, I've done pre and post 93 Preludes with I/Start, just remember to power all in the ignition loom, watch out for clutch switch in later versions if manual, tach is easy to find,  plug with 1 blue wire attached to loom behind suspension strut. Take your main power from the engine bay fuse box NOT the ignition switch because that's only fused at 50amps and that's borderline as far as I'm concerned.

OK, Good news and Bad news. The good News is that I got the alarm today. The bad news is that it doesn't have the sensors with it (Just the harnesses and both brains). I'm not crying about it because I picked it all up for $50. So, I'm missing: the Digital Tilt/motion sensor The Dual zone Proximity sensor Wireless immobilizer and the Smart self-powered Siren. The intelliguard 6000 that i've got in the car now (with a dead brain) should have the same antenna, valet and dash lights. Can I use the sensors I already have in the car (the glass break and dual zone piezo sensor) as a substitute for the missing sensors or should I scour ebay to find the missing sensors. I can connect the existing siren as an accessory siren for the meantime, but ideally I should be looking for a self powered siren though, right? How compatible are modern DEI sensors with the AVG 4 brain? It looks like I should just be able to wire them up. Hmm....

508d can replace the dual zone prox, there should be a spare lead with red, black, orange and blue. From 508d, green to blue, blue to orange, red to red and black to black. Try and get the earlier bigger battery back-up siren from DEI bout $50.  I'ts much better and a lot louder. The wireless immobiliser was aPITA, Clifford never got any returns because we never installed them! The current tilt sensors are cheapo rubbish compared to the original.

The dual zone input on the AVG4 has 3 wires (red, WHITE/ blue and Black). or do you mean to install it to the tilt sensor input?

so I should just skip the tilt sensor then? Thanks!
