Hello all,
I have a question regarding the installation of aftermarket door locks. I currently have a 2007 Ford Ranger. The truck came from the dealership with an aftermarket alarm pre-installed. The alarm is made by Ultraguard, which apparently is no longer in business.
The door lock kit I plan to buy is this one from A1 Electric. According to their information the kit can be tied into any alarm with negative door lock outputs.
Here is where my questions start. I found the alarm system under the dash and traced the wires coming out of it to a bundle behind the driver's kick-panel. I used a multimeter to check the voltages on the unconnected wires by testing one at a time with the positive multimeter probe. The negative multimeter probe was grounded to the vehicle frame. There are three wires
that get power:
Brown wire: 12v constant.
Green wire: 12v pulse when 'lock' is pressed on the remote.
Red wire: 12v pulse when 'unlock' is pressed on the remote.
Based on this information, I'm assuming that this is set up for a three wire positive system like the one in this linked diagram. In order to make this alarm function with the A1 Electric kit, it seems that I would need to get two relays, one for the lock pulse wire and one for the unlock pulse wire to convert them to negative, as shown in this diagram here.
I'm pretty sure this is correct, but I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything before I start purchasing things and pulling my truck apart. Is there anything I missed or forgot here?
Thanks!

No one's ever heard of Ultraguard, apparently. I think they may have been bought out by Audiovox at some point.
Where exactly are you asking about wiring? Coming out of the back of the alarm box under the dash?

I'll look again, but I don't remember seeing a diagram on the unit.

there may not be     just wanted to verify the wires   the wires you listed seem to be the 3 wire system    so you would be able to use those with the after market kit and you were right with the relays
what i did with mine was get the factory actuators from ford i have a f150 and i used 2 relays to control those the actuators fit better in my opinion but those kits work too i had one in my 93 f150

I just checked, there isn't a diagram on the control box. Looks like I'll need a few relays from radio shack.
Thanks!
