I am putting a Viper 5101 remote start on a 2002 Ford super duty pickup.  Everything seems to work fine when the motor is warm.  When it is cold it will start and run for about a minute then shut off and try to restart.  I didn't hook it up through the tach wire, didn't know if that would make a difference.  any ideas would be great.

I got one on my wife's 2005 chevy (gas) that works great.

By the way, if at best buy they tell you the a viper 5101 is a do it yourself don't believe them.  DEI techs won't help you with this model.

personal i would hook up the tach wire its easy to get on super duty
there is a customer access just left of the steering column
there will be a bundle of wires that are taped off on the wire loom with a tag saying customer access (most likely) and the wire colors and what they are for.
the one you want is a GREEN / WHITE
after programing the tach i bet you problem will go away
voltage sensing is really unreliable in the cold

I've done a few of these trucks and tach is a must for it to work properly. Like Monty says, the tach is very easy to get under the dash. Be sure to delay the start too....

on the 02 there is no customer access harness. that is only on the 04 and up with the 6.0l diesel. yours has a 7.3l diesel. you need to find the white with pink tracer in the harness going to the engine to the left of the brake pedel on the firewall.

Your right the wires are all there.  After a little programming and a jumper switch change, the truck starts and stays running fine.  Thanks everyone for the help.

No longer with a headache,
