I have a 2010 Ford Escape and a Viper 5902. When the doors are closed this provides a ground to the Escape smart junction box. When they are open the door circuit is open and the smart junction box shows 12 VDC. I successfully interfaced this circuit to the Vipe 5902 positive Door input. However, I recently added this same input to my Viper 516L Voice Module via a relay to invert the signal. The 516L requires a ground when a door is open. What I found is the Escape Smart Junction Box does not have a enough drive for the relay coil. It appears it is an open collector as lower impedance loads such as a relay coil (when the door is open) drives the Ford smart junction box door input to ground.

I don't want to go to the dome light as it’s on a delayed circuit. I can't find any other source for the Escape door logic.

I am about ready to add a simple single transistor invertor with a high impedance input but would rather buy a pre-packaged signal invertor. Does anyone make one?

Use one side of a 451M relay. We have this problem driving relays off some bluetooths we install. The 451M needs much less current than a standard Bosch style relay....

Thanks, Mike!

Thanks Mike!

I ordered two 451M's this evening. I reviewed the manual and it looks like there are two relay coils with NC and NO contacts. I couldn't tell the size of the module nor more importantly the resistance of the coils. Although when I see the contacts are capable of 15A i would think the coils will demand 30 to 50 ma which will do me in.

The typical "Bosch" relays consume 80 to 100ma @ 14 VDC.

I will report out when I receive them.

You can reprogramme the 5902 to accept Ford Style lock triggers, i.e. normally closed, use the dome light to control the 516L door trigger. Or better still use DEI's DTI Mazda, will do for both the 5902 and the 516.

A Bosch/Now Tyco relay draws 160 MA.

I agree I can program the 5902 for NC if I was doing one door. I am doing all four doors plus the tail gate . I have them diode isolated but of course until all five doors are open the input will be grounded as long as one door remains closed.

The dome light is delayed so if I were to use it each time I armed with the dome light on the 561L would indicate a door is open even if all doors were closed.

I will look into the DEI DTI Mazda.

Thank you!

Agree about the dome light staying on, it's a Ford glitch that drives me mad on certain UK Fords. Having said that use NOTHING that leaves any normal relay "on", I think the DTI Mazda will pick up the individual doors without that problem.
Also having said that some Fords over here use a positive feed for the trunk light. I use either a transistor or a small PCB relay to flip but it's only powered up when the door/trunk is open.

Could you point me towards where I could find more information about the "DEI DTI Mazda "Module?

You'll have to contact either DEI tech or a local dealer who's knowledgeable, although if it's DIY most dealers won't want to know.

Does it have a module number?
