Is it a bad Relay Harness??

I put in a Viper 571 in a 1992 Chevy Truck and absolutely nothing happens when trying to remote start. No attempt to start, no clicking, no light flashes. I know I have the correct wires as I removed a Bulldog R/S to put the Viper in its place. The lights flash on lock/unlock, horn honk, Dome light works.

I have tried switching the brain twice, the antenna, the ribbon harness to the relay pack...same results.  I have checked the connections, both voltage and ohm from the wire ends to the XCRS relay pack and it all checks out.

The only thing I have left is to replace the XCRS relay harness(heavy gauge wire).  I just wanted an opinion on this before I rip it out.  Are these XCRS relay packs known for being bad?

Thanks

Rich

the xcrs normally dont go bad. did you ground the BLACK/ white in the 5 pin harness?

Yes indeed I do.

I have the

H1/1 to a flashing Viper logo, H1/2 to parking lights,   H1/4 to a relay for dome lights  H1/8 to chassis Ground as well as the H3/5 BLACK/ White

H1/10 to horn  H1/12 to constant 12volts

H3/2 to hood pin,,  H3/3 to brake,, H3/4 to white tach wire at BCM,,  H3/5 to chassis Ground

The heavy gauge harness :  the two red to constant 12 volts(red), the green to the key side of the cut starter wire(purple), the purple to the starter side(purple), The orange to (orange), the Pink to (pink).... (truck wires).

If I cant figure it out I guess I'll take it out and put in a 5301.  Just baffeled as to what!!!!!!

Check your hoodpin  and brake inputs to make you that you dont have a shutdown signal present.

Does it respond to lock or unlock,  but nothing when you attempt to RS?

I agree,,, I am missing something.  I took one of my 571 put it on a battery charger. put the two heavy gauge red and the red H1/12 to positive,  the black and the BLACK/ white to ground...then put the red probe of my DMM to the orange heavy gauge, the black probe to ground.  Hit the button and the brain and XCRS click and the DMM reads 12 volts at the orange, pink, and purple of the heavy gauge wire.  So tomorrow I will tear out each wire and check.  Tonight is Friday Fish Fry.

I have missed something probably VERY simple while swapping wires from the Bulldog to the Viper...

FOUND IT!    I am a BONEHEAD again!!

I had the hood pin connected to a relay for the Bulldog not to start while the truck was in gear. Once I cut that wire off the hood pin, started right up.  This truck will remote start if is left in gear so there was a relay to kill the remote start if a key was in the barrel.

I need to do a little rewiring of the relay for key in ignition = no start.   SO, looking on page 22 of the install manual, there is a diagram that shows pin 85 connected to,  Purple (-) start output from remote start.  Anyone know if this is the purple from the 7 wire ribbon harness from the brain to the XCRS or the purple wire from the from the 4 pin remote start Auxillary harness wiring diagram??   My hunch is it the one from the 7 wire ribbon harness.

Thanks

it is the 4pin extra harness that plugs into the xcrs pack. the purple is a neg starter output

I tried the diagram on page 22. but I am reading 12 Volts positive from the purple wire of the 4 pin harness off of the xcrs, and as soon as I connect the hood wire to the green wire, per the diagram, I get  no remote start.

I am thinking that I might need a diode on the hood pin and the relay set up from page 22.  I guess I'm in the try and error mode.

Any thoughts??

That small Purple wire WILL show a positive voltage on it when it's at rest.  And will show NEGATIVE when the RS CRANKS the truck.

Cut the Gray wire near the module, attach 2 diodes (UNbanded ends) to that cut wire toward the module.  Then you have 2 Banded ends..... attach one to the green (keysense) wire at he keyswitch, and the other banded end goes to the pinswitch.

In that diagram.... when the RS attempts to crank the vehicle... it sends a positive voltage out on the big purple starter wire, and it send a (-) trigger out on the small purple... that trigger triggers your relay... it sends the ground input from #87 thru #30 and to the TAN wire at the key cylinder.  IF the key is in the ignition (allowing the shifter to be out of park).... that ground input will come out the green wire and go into your gray shutdown input.     ........ if the key is not in the igniton, the ground does'nt come out of the green and your unit will allow a start.

Can you see that in the diagram?    Study it,  try and envision what happens when the relay energizes and what flows where and what happens.

Well, I have tried for three hours now and this will not work.

If I set it up as described, the second the gray (-) is attached to the green from the key cylinder, it goes to ground and NO START.  The best I can get is by moving the tan wire to the gray hood pin wire, and the green wire to pin 30 of the relay. I get a NO START with the key in the ignition, remote start with the key out of the ignition BUT, when the drivers door is opened the remote start shuts down.  Very puzzeling. I tried the diodes as described but no luck.

I have 87 to ground,    86 to 12 volts constant,   85 to purple wire of 4 pin harness,  30 to the tan of key cylinder,  87a  Not Connected.

Maybe I need to switch the 85 and 86 wires???  Have  to step back and retry tomorrow.  I got it to work with the Bulldog but the Viper is fighting me.
